Monthly Stats Reflect Progress For Port Columbus, Rickenbacker

COLUMBUS – October statistics for Port Columbus International Airport and Rickenbacker International Airport show signs that activity is beginning to stabilize after a tumultuous year.

In October Port Columbus experienced a 0.9 percent decrease in passengers compared to the same month the previous year. A total of 546,779 passengers traveled through the airport in October compared to 551,861 in October 2008. Year-to-date 5,222,151 passengers have used Port Columbus, down 11.3 percent from 2008.

At Rickenbacker International Airport over 15.3 million pounds of cargo moved through the airport in October, which equates to an eight percent drop compared to October 2008. Year-to-date cargo numbers reflect the movement of nearly 127 million pounds, which is down 24 percent from the previous year.

“Activity levels at Port Columbus and Rickenbacker are one reflection of the economy and it’s encouraging to see these activity levels begin to stabilize,” said David Whitaker, Vice President of Business Development & Communications.

Port Columbus provides 150 daily departures to 32 airports. The 10 air carriers at Port Columbus include Air Canada Jazz, AirTran, American, Continental, Delta, Midwest Connect, Northwest, Southwest, United, US Airways and the regional affiliates associated with many of these major airlines.

Rickenbacker is a multi-modal cargo airport that features an impressive network of freight forwarders and cargo airlines such as FedEx, UPS, Evergreen International, Kalitta and Atlas as well as a U.S. Foreign-Trade Zone.
