November Stats Reflect Progress For Port Columbus, Rickenbacker
COLUMBUS – November statistics for Port Columbus International Airport and Rickenbacker International Airport show signs of stabilization for the third consecutive month. In November Port Columbus experienced a 1.6 percent decrease in passengers compared to the same month the previous year. A total of 494,905 passengers traveled through the airport in November compared to 502,898 in November 2008. Year-to-date 5,717,056 passengers have used Port Columbus, down 10.6 percent from 2008. At Rickenbacker International Airport over 16.4 million pounds of cargo moved through the airport in November, which equates to a five percent increase compared to November 2008. Year-to-date cargo numbers reflect the movement of over 183.7 million pounds, which is down 22 percent from the previous year. “We are seeing activity at our airports continue to stabilize as the national economy improves,” said David Whitaker, Vice President of Business Development & Communications. “We are cautiously optimistic that both Port Columbus and Rickenbacker will see modest gains in 2010.” Port Columbus provides 149 daily departures to 32 airports. The 10 air carriers at Port Columbus include Air Canada Jazz, AirTran, American, Continental, Delta, Midwest Connect, Northwest, Southwest, United, US Airways and the regional affiliates associated with many of these major airlines.
