Delta “Focuses” On Columbus, Adds Port Columbus Flights to Hartford & Orlando
On December 1 Delta Air Lines will start three daily flights to Hartford, Connecticut and will add an additional Orlando flight from Columbus. Delta CEO Gerald Grinstein recently made this announcement as part of a comprehensive transformation plan that calls for a simplified, more efficient airline designed to improve the customer traveling experience while delivering significant savings. In that announcement, Grinstein labeled Columbus a focus city meaning Port Columbus is an important component of the Delta network.Delta’s announcement included a total of 31 new non-stop flights to 19 additional destinations from the airline’s key focus cities that include Columbus, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, New York, Orlando and Tampa. “It is significant that Delta has deemed Columbus a focus city as the airline is key to the growth of this airport,” said Elaine Roberts, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. “We’re appreciative of Delta’s investment in the Columbus market. Hartford is on our list of desired non-stop destinations to serve the needs of our business travelers and we believe it will be a successful route for the airline. In addition, Orlando is a popular leisure destination for Central Ohio travelers and the additional flight, which will bring the airline’s total to five a day, is sure to be well received.” Port Columbus is served by all major airlines, and as of December 1 will have 179 daily non-stop flights to 34 airports. Delta has the largest market share at Port Columbus, currently carrying 21% of all passengers. Delta is followed by Southwest with 18% market share and American with 13%.
